A magical fall walk in Spring Creek Canyon at Fisherman' Paradise was the inspiration for this pastel.

Oil on Panel

28"x20"

This painting was created from a plein air drawing at Fisherman’s Paradise. I love this spot - a hallowed place for flyfishing, portal to the canyon section of Spring Creek, and historical root of the Centre County iron industry. I’ve fished and walked here for several decades, and appreciate the vigor of the stream and quiet stretches of woods adjoining it.

This painting features Spring Creek in Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte. I’m intrigued by the many niches within this open space– willow trees, impressive spring, railroad, historic buildings. The location along the creek and within the town invites people to gather and explore at leisure.

Roots

     By Anne Kenyon

Pastel

11"x14"

“Roots” is part of an ongoing series of creekside scenes.  This particular part of the creek is a bit off the road on a path mostly used by fisherman. In the late summer it was pretty prickly and overgrown.

Rocks

Pastel

14"x14"

“Rocks”. is a late summer view of Spring Creek, chosen for the quality of the light and the lovely reflections, which vary endlessly depending on time of day and season.  I’ve been walking this trail for years and there is always something to see and to paint.

Oil

On a crisp fall day, I was on a quest for a new scene to paint. As I crossed a small bridge in Oak Hall, I glanced to my right and saw the colorful foilage and water reflections and decided this was an interesting setting for a painting.

Photo was taken at Spring Creek during the Covid Pandemic. I was focusing on water reflections at the time, but the water was so clear that details of what I normally perceived as a murky creek bottom had clarity and colorful shadows.

In 2023 I was the artist-in-residence with ClearWater Conservancy's Centred Outdoors project.  I painted this en plein air on the Mother's Day hike in 2023.  After a short hike with Mom, I doubled back to the trailhead at Fisherman’s Paradise and set up my easel in a bit of shade to capture the essence of this special. Mom and Dad set out their chairs to watch and enjoy the sunny, breezy afternoon. We were charmed by a couple of mama geese teaching their young ones to float the riffles.

A few days after Don Hamer passed away in 2016, I painted one of my favorite views of Millbrook Marsh.  I consider it a tribute to a man who meant so much to me and gave so much of himself to our community.  As an early president of ClearWater Conservancy, Don focused the young organization on the conservation of Spring Creek and the ripple effects continue to be felt to this day.
